The game was first announced in a Pokémon focused Nintendo Direct broadcasted on January 9th 2020. The plot of the game remains the same as the original. When the player's Pokémon is given a gummi for the first time, they will always get the Squad Up Rare Trait. ![]() Pokémon gained from jobs always have one and Pokémon found in dungeons have a chance of having one when recruited. They act like partywide buffs but each Pokémon can only have one active and two of the same do not stack. Rare Traits are replacements to the IQ Skills and Looplet system from the last game. The standard rainbow gummis give a chance of getting a Rare Trait with the DX Gummis guaranteeing that one will be offered. Consuming one will give an increase of one to a random stat of either 1 or 3 in rare cases. They are only obtainable from Boxes or completing jobs and can only be used a Friend Camps. There are only two types of gummis Rainbow and DX Gummis. The gummi system has been reworked in this game. However, evolution does not give the same stat buffs as traditional Pokémon games giving only an increase of 10 HP and 3 to all stats. Any other evolution method uses the Evolution Crystal resource. Pokémon that evolve via level up or happiness only require to surpass a certain level. The player can evolve Pokémon after completing the main story. All successful recruited Pokémon will earn experience points while at their camps and level up. All the Friend Camps must be purchased from Wigglytuff except for the player's partner and some Legendary Pokémon. The player must own the respective Friend Camp to keep it after finishing a dungeon. The player has limited control of these recruited Pokémon and they do not earn experience. The Orbs can be used for room/party wide attacks with some even affecting all the active Pokémon on the floor.ĭefeated Pokémon can be recruited for the dungeon with room in the party for up to 8 Pokémon. Additionally, there are items that can be used in substitute of moves for attacks such as Gravelrocks, Seeds and Wands. These stats are universal for any Pokémon that uses the move. Moves used repeatedly are trained up that increases the PP, power and accuracy of the move. The moves take on their power and effects as of the seventh generation with some changes to make them work in Mystery Dungeon such as turning all priority moves into ranged attacks that can reach two tiles away and making sound attacks hit the entire room. Unlike the original, there is no basic attack with the a button choosing the optimal attack for the situation or a wait action when no attack will hit. The combat takes much of the traditional traits of the Pokémon games and applies them to a grid format. However, each of the player's main Pokémon has individual hunger meter and the active leader can be swapped at any time. The player must be careful to manage their hunger as the player loses health rapidly once empty and cannot recover HP overtime. The floors are grid-based and whenever the player performs an action, everyone else performs an action. The goal is to clear all the floors of the dungeon while helping rescue Pokémon from preselected jobs. The player controls a team of up to 3 Pokémon to explore randomly generated floors of dungeons and fight roving enemy Pokémon. The game plays similar to other Mystery Dungeon games, specifically Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon. ![]()
